Indrani Basu Memorial Award for Excellence in Chemistry

In the loving memory of my mother, Smt. Indrani Basu (Retired High School Teacher in Chemistry at Uttar Dum Dum Balika Vidyalaya, Birati, Government of West Bengal, India), this scholarship will be given to a few selected outstanding students in the field of Chemistry who are needy but willing to pursue higher studies (to become next-generation researchers or scientists) in the field of Chemistry or Applied Chemistry.

Eligibility: Students who have qualified Higher Secondary from the West Bengal Board with exemplary marks, along with their outstanding interest in Chemistry.

1. The student is expected to have an outstanding academic record in Chemistry (Chemistry Olympiad, High Score in Chemistry in JEE Main and Advanced or in NEET or in equivalent national-level exams).
2. Students must be willing to pursue higher studies (PhD/PostDoc) in Chemistry or closely related fields.
3. Students willing to become researchers or scientists in the field of Chemistry or closely related fields.
4. Students must be from WBBSE and WBCHSC (West Bengal Board).
5. Students are expected to have at least 90% or above (9 GPA) in the aggregate in Secondary and Higher Secondary exams.
6. In case of a large number of submissions, an interview round may be conducted by a selected eminent jury (researchers/scientist from India) to finalize top three candidates.

The award ceremony will take place at Barrackpore Government High School, West Bengal, India (Deborsi spent his twelve memorable years in this esteemed and heritage school of West Bengal, India), every year in the month of November.

1. Application window opens in June/July every year.
2. Evaluation, screening, and Interview in August-October.
3. Result declaration on 31st October.
4. Event ceremony in the middle of November.

Award: Three top selected students will be awarded INR 20000/-, a memento, a certificate from DBA in the loving memory of Smt. Indrani Basu, and a trophy.

About Smt. Indrani Basu (21st February 1953 - 17th June 2022):

Smt. Indrani Basu completed her Graduation and Post-Graduation in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta, West Bengal, India. She served as an Assistant Teacher, followed by a Senior Teacher of Chemistry, at Uttar DumDum Vidyapith for Girls, Birati, West Bengal, India, Government of West Bengal, India. She served as a committee member of "Head Examiners" and also served as an examiner responsible for setting questions for Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations of West Bengal in Chemistry of WBBSE and WBCHSE (Madhya Shiksha Parishad, West Bengal, Government of West Bengal).

She also completed the 6th year in Singing and performed numerous performances in social and cultural programms across West Bengal, India.
